AppleFax Modem

The AppleFax Modem is your personal link to the worldwide installed base of facsimile ma­chines. Not only does it give you a convenient way to send fax files to - and receive them from - virtually any standard facsimile machine, it also lets you ex­change data files with other Apple Macintosh computers equipped with AppleFax Modems - at speeds up to four times faster than standard 2400-baud modems.


  • Compatibility with Group 3 facsimile machines (virtually all installed fax machines)
  • Rapid Macintosh file transfer (9600 bits per second)


Data format

  • Protocol: asynchronous
  • Compatible with Group 3 fax machines
  • Character length
    • 7 or 8 data bits
    • 1 or 2 stop bits
  • Parity: odd, even, or none
  • Mode: half duplex

Transmission speeds

  • 9600 bits per second (bps)
  • 7200 bps
  • 4800bps
  • 2400bps (V.29 and V.27 ter)


  • Connector: minicircular 8-pin

Receiver sensitivity

  • -10 to -40 dBm

Transmitter level

  • -10 dBm, fixed as per FCC Part 68


  • Two RJ-11 modular telephone jacks (one for phone ­line cable, one for optional telephone)
  • Two minicircular 8-pin jacks (data cable and pass-through device)
