Freeware developed by Charley Kline of the University of Illinois that brings audio broadcasting to anyone with a Mac and a connection to the Internet. Maven, like CU-SeeMe, which brings videoconferencing capability to Internet users, requires a fast connection to the Internet to work properly—an ISDN or direct connection, which is faster than dial-up modems using SLIP or PPP. An ISDN or faster connection is recommended. CU-SeeMe has incorporated Maven’s code into its own software to add audio capability for its users.

Mac users with versions of the MacOS earlier than 7.5 should get the current version of the Sound Manager before using Maven.
