SGI Indy R5000 200MHz Overclock

From Higher Intellect Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

The SGI Indy with the R5000/180 module can be overclocked to 200MHz by replacing the crystal as noted below. We don't have any reports about stability, and you may want to add a CPU heatsink fan if your module didn't already use one.

Parts required:

  • Indy R5000/180 processor module
  • 50.000000 MHz CXO7050T3/HCMOS/050/20/70 3.3V SMD

This data sheet from comtec-crystals.com should be the accurate part.

Instructions

You need to remove the existing 45MHz 3.3V crystal and replace it with the new part. More than likely will require higher wattage soldering iron.
