Saves crash dumps of IRIX.
Crash files include a stack trace which might give good hints for what went wrong.
For example, a crash on a dual processor machine in which both processors were executing network related functions might give pause to consider applying a patch on supportfolio related to network crashes for that same version of the operating system. (cough) 6.5.28 (cough)
