Bravo (golay and pocsag version) Self Diagnostic feature

Hold the read (^) button and the protect button (with a picture of a
padlock), and turn the pager on. Release both buttons. You will now hear
a continuous tone and "SPL" will appear on the display for the English
version, or --1-- on the international version. Within two seconds, press
the read button to enter self-diagnostic mode or the protect button to
enter the code-plug reading mode.

In pager sensitivity test, the battery saver is off. A short beep will be
heard when a page is received instead of the normal, longer one, and the
display will read "paging" (--2-- in the international). pressing read
will enter the lcd test, which can be controlled by the protect button
but will proceed without any operator intervention. Press the read button
to go on to the code plug reading test.

Either a the first CAP-code or "CHEC FAIL" will be displayed. Chec fail
a bad code plug or illegal CAP-code ( in the international version, chec fail
is indicated by a "checkerboard" pattern). The read button exits this routine,
or, within 5 seconds press the protect button for reading the second
CAP-code. Pressing the protect button here will cause the option codes
(described next) to be displayed in hexadecimal, otherwise, letting this
step time out will cause them to be display in binary.

OPTIONS: from left to right on screen

GSC (Golay) options:
page 1: 0=battery saver, 1=chirp, 1=short alert (a hidden option),
1=manual reset, 1=beep on bad data (a hidden option), 0=dead man timeout
alert (not a user feature), 1=data invert, 1=English displays
page 2: 1=2 codes active, 1=word 1a equals word 1b (not a user feature),
1=individual code 2, 1=tone and data rather than all data, 1= unique code
2 alert as opposed to 4 function alerts, 1=silent code 2, sequential
lockout (00=none,01=64 sec, 10=2.7 min, 11=6.4 min)
page 3: xxxx=code 1 priority override option bits order 4 3 2 1, code 2
priority override option bits order 4 3 2 1
If Hex display selected, pages are displayed in bytes starting at left of
screen...on right is "d" for defeat reminder active.
finally, in hex, 4 bit preamble index (1101 is used when no battery
saver), 8 bit word 1, 12 bit word 2, 4 bits of functions active (in order
of 4 3 2 1)

POCSAG options:
page 1: 1=data invert, alerts on code 2 (00=silent, 01=unique alert, 10=4
function alerts), 1=english displays, sequential lockout (00=none, 01=64
sec, 10=2.7 min, 11=6.4 min), 1=chirp, 1=ground call 2nd code
page 2: bits 1,3,4,5 are code 1 priority override option bits, in order 1
2 3 4. bit 2 is individual code 2 (1=active). bit 6=out of range indicator,
bit 7=beep on bad data, bit 8=manual reset
page 3: bits 1,2,3,4=code 2 priority over-ride, order 1 2 3 4. bits 5 6 7
8=active code 2 functions, order 4 3 2 1
If Hex display mode enabled, page one is leftmost byte. "P" in 2nd to
rightmost position means international character set is selected, "d" in
rightmost position means reminder defeat is active.

After the options display is the switch test, press read to enter. LCD
will display "Controls" (--3-- on international), there will be a
"checkerboard" character on each side of a single digit indicating which
button has been pushed, 1=protect, 2=on-to-memo-alert,

If there is a vibrator in the unit, pressing read will display "vibrator"
(--4-- international) and unit will vibrate while display is lit.
pressing either button will exit this step.

Pressing read will re-enter the self-diagnostic mode. To exit self-diag,
press read then press protect, and pager will return to normal.

In POCSAG, the out of range indicator will appear when pager has not
received a signal for 6 minutes. Here is my attempt to suggest what this
looks like:

As soon as a signal is re-acquired, the display will return to normal.
