The Byte Shop

The Byte Shop was a Silicon Valley computer shop owned and run by Paul Terrell. In May 1976, The Byte Shop became Apple’s first customer with an order for 50 Apple I computers at $500 each.

Terrell had seen the Apple I demonstrated by Steve Wozniak at a meeting of the Homebrew Computer Club. Although Wozniak and Steve Jobs had planned to sell just the bare circuit boards, Terrell expected complete computers, so they quickly managed to assemble 50 complete computers (complete circuit boards, actually) to fill the order.
