The ALTEXXANET project provides access to legacy Internet based services for both nostalgia purposes and to allow older computers to access software archives. The ALTEXXANET servers are maintained by Altexxa Group with software/document/image content provided by Higher Intellect (preterhuman.net). The official ALTEXXANET site is located here.
You should be able to access the ALTEXXANET Gopher server in one of two ways. For early browsers with built-in Gopher support (or any other Gopher client), navigate to gopher://gopher.altexxanet.org. For modern web browsers, you can view the Gopher server over HTTP by using http://gopher.altexxanet.org:70
ALTEXXANET runs two anonymous FTP servers. We find FTP to be a convenient way to transfer files to older computing platforms.
ALTEXXANET runs a news server independent from the more common Usenet servers. There is a small selection of available news groups for reading and posting. Point your news client at news://news.altexxanet.org to connect.
The ALTEXXANET project also aims to provide specific services for registered users. To apply for access to available services, users must register at our central portal https://users.altexxanet.org (requires modern browser) and request access.
ZEUS Web Hosting
The ZEUS web hosting project provides users with a 10mb home directory and an FTP account to upload their website. ZEUS supports only static HTML, similar to what you'd find with other free hosting providers of the 1990s. ZEUS also offers a selection of era appropriate images for use in your web sites. View the ZEUS site at http://zeus.altexxanet.org.
