Brief History
AT&T, originally known as American Telephone & Telegraph, started as a part of the Bell Patent Association, a legal entity to protect Alexander Graham Bell's patents on communications technology, but also was, starting in the 1980's a provider of computer systems and equipment manufactured by other manufacturers such as Samsung, NEC, Unisys, Convergent Technologies, and many others. In 1991 and until 1997, they acquired National Cash Register/NCR and produced desktops and laptops under the AT&T and NCR brands for a time.
