| + | AppleShare IP 6.0 supports AppleShare File Sharing on TCP/IP as well as AppleTalk. To optimize performance, AppleShare automatically connects any client with a valid IP address via TCP/IP. If the TCP/IP connection is implemented using high-speed media such as Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) or 100BASE-T Ethernet, AppleShare IP 6.0 takes advantage of the medium, performing file transfers at the maximum speed. Support for TCP/IP means that AppleShare IP 6.0 supports geographically distributed workgroups. For example, a user in the United States can access a server in France through the Internet, as if it were on a LAN. Any server that is available over AppleTalk, or over both TCP/IP and AppleTalk, appears in the Chooser. To select a server available via TCP/IP only, the user can type in its domain name or IP address. To make it easier for a colleague to access a particular file server, a user can create an alias for the server and deliver it via disk or e-mail. The alias contains both AppleTalk path information and the IP address of the server, so it works from any Macintosh client with network access, regardless of protocol or location. |
| + | By combining a suite of powerful services in one package, AppleShare IP 6.0 makes it easier for companies, educational organizations, and workgroups to communicate and collaborate. The services — file sharing, e-mail, web, and print — each powerful in its own right — can be used singly or in any combination. Regardless, administration is simple because all services share the same users and groups database, and privileges set up for one service apply to the others as well.Use of Internet-standard protocols and services, such as TCP/IP, LPR printing, POP,and IMAPv4, enables organizations with mixed clients to communicate and collaborate more effectively. For example, Mac OS, Windows, and UNIX users can share files easily, and Windows and UNIX clients can print to Apple printers — even over the Internet. Finally, AppleShare IP 6.0 offers its power and flexibility with no compromise in ease of use. All services share a single, intuitive interface. The administrator simply checks boxes to enable and disable services. Easy to install, use, and administer, AppleShare IP6.0 satisfies workgroup requirements for versatility with minimal overhead for training and administration. |
