General Magic Data Rover 840
Lightweight and portable, the devices provide a powerful combination of computing muscle and performance in less than 19 ounces. DataRover was conceived, designed and built to run efficiently as a small communicating device.
In fact, communications is at the core of DataRover's design. From its integrated TCP/IP stack to its web browser to the built in software modem, our DataRover devices are built to communicate.
DataRover is remarkably easy to learn and use. Its intuitive user interface makes mobile computing accessible to all users, regardless of their computer expertise. With DataRover, shorter training time and reduced barriers to adoption mean easier implementation and deployment of mobile computing solutions.
At General Magic, we believe in creating solutions that let workers concentrate on their work, not on our technology. For that reason, DataRover devices have been designed to be fully customizable. From the hardware, the operating system, custom applications and support, the DataRover family will provide one-stop-shopping to vertical market customers.
First in the DataRover family of products, the DataRover 840, will ship in the first quarter of 1998. The 840 is a semi-rugged, tablet-type handheld computer, designed for mobile users who want to send and receive data in real-time and through a variety of communications options. The next product in the DataRover family will be based on a significantly different form factor, thus creating additional options for users. An announcement of its specific features and availability will be made soon.
Communications flexibility is built in all DataRover products. From dual PC Card slots, to an integrated software modem, all DataRover products will enable communications via email, fax send and receive, the Internet and corporate intranets. DataRover also includes frameworks to support wireless WANs and LANs through PC card and serial ports.
