Originally released without an FPU, meaning the CPU was the Motorola 68LC040. Later became the Macintosh Quadra 650.

General Information

Designed for performance and flexibility, the Apple Macintosh Centris 650 is the most expandable Macintosh Centris computer. Like all Macintosh Centris models, the Macintosh Centris 650 is ideal for mainstream business and professional users. The Macintosh Centris 650 offers the speed and power you need to get the job done in the most demanding environments, and the flexibility to grow as your needs change.

Based on the fast, 25-megahertz Motorola 68040 CPU, the Macintosh Centris 650 provides affordable high performance. The Macintosh Centris 650 comes with 4 megabytes of RAM and a built-in 8K cache for speed up to 2.5 times that of the Macintosh IIci and IIvx. For increased performance, you can expand memory up to 132 megabytes or add an optional math coprocessor.

Memory

4 MB of RAM, expandable to 132 MB.

Expansion

The Macintosh Centris 650 and Macintosh Quadra 800 computers each have three NuBus expansion slots and a processor-direct slot.

PDS

The PDS is connected to the pins of the MC68040 without any buffers. The PDS signals are the same for the Macintosh Centris 610, Centris 650, and Macintosh Quadra 800 computers, but the system clock speeds are different.

Except for timing, the processor-direct slots in the Macintosh Centris 610, Centris 650, and Macintosh Quadra 800 computers are identical to the ones in the Macintosh Quadra computers; the PDS card used with the adapter in the Macintosh Centris 610 is the same except for its size (maximum length of 7 inches).

Physical Dimensions

Height: 6.0 in. (15.2 cm), Width: 13.0 in. (33.0 cm), Depth: 16.5 in. (41.9 cm), Weight: 25 lb. (11.3 kg). Weight varies based on installed components.
