Section 8
ERROR MESSAGES

Section 8.1
You will see the following message at startup if the 3.5.3 driver is installed in the startup disk System Folder but is unable to load because a different version of the Iomega driver is already loaded:

"Version 3.5.3 of the Iomega driver cannot load because a different version of the Iomega driver is already running. Refer to the 'Error Messages' section of the Iomega Software Manual."

This indicates that an old version of the Iomega driver is present either in the System Folder or on a Bernoulli disk which is inserted at startup. Refer to Section 7.1.2 of your Iomega Software Manual.

  • .".. the Iomega Workshop cannot load ..."
  • .".. driver not installed ..."
  • "This driver can also be used as a Control Panel ..."
  • .".. [disk] is being shared ..."

Section 8.2
.".. the Iomega Workshop cannot load ..."

The Iomega Workshop will be unable to run if:

  • You try to run a version of the Workshop different from the version of the driver currently loaded on the system.
  • You try to run the Workshop and the Iomega driver is unable to find any Iomega drives.
  • The dialog box containing the error message will indicate the problem.

Section 8.2.1
Different Workshop and Driver Versions
You will see the following dialog box if you try to run the Workshop when a different version of the driver is loaded on the system:

"Version 3.5.3 of the Iomega Workshop cannot lead because it does not match the version of the Iomega driver which is now loaded. Refer to the 'Error Messages' section of the Iomega Software Manual."

This is a safety feature to ensure that the driver and Workshop will work together correctly.

Make sure you are running the latest version of the Iomega Workshop - it should be located in the Iomega Software 3.5.3 folder on your startup disk. To check the version number for the "Workshop," select the "Workshop" icon from the "Finder," then select "Get Info" from the "File" menu. Remove any old versions of the Workshop from the system to prevent confusion.

Make sure the latest version of the driver is loaded on the system. To identify the version currently loaded, select a "Bernoulli disk" icon in the "Finder," then select "Get Info" from the "File" menu. The version number appears in parentheses at the end of the line titled "Where."

If an old version of the driver is loaded, locate it and remove it from the system. Refer to Section 7.1.2 of your Iomega Software Manual or FaxBack document 1012 for detailed information.

Section 8.2.2
Workshop Cannot Find a Bernoulli Drive.
If you try to run the Workshop and the Iomega driver is unable to find any Bernoulli drives, you will see the following dialog box:

The driver cannot find a drive if:

  • No Bernoulli drives are connected to the Macintosh.
  • A hardware problem keeps the Macintosh from recognizing the Bernoulli drive. Try the hardware solutions listed in Section 7.1.1 of your Iomega Software Manual.
  • A non-Iomega driver is controlling the Bernoulli drive. Refer to Section 7.1.3 of your Iomega Software Manual for problem-solving information.
  • The driver is not installed and Workshop is unable to load the driver. This can happen if you are running System 6 without MultiFinder.

Section 8.3
.".. driver not installed ..."
You will see an error message that indicates the driver is not installed if you try to run an old version of the Iomega Workshop when the 3.5.3 Driver is loaded on the system.

Make sure you are running the latest version of the Iomega Workshop - it should be located in the Iomega Software 3.5.3 folder on your startup disk. To check the version number for the Workshop, select the "Workshop" icon from the "Finder," then select "Get Info" from the "File" menu. Remove any old versions of the Workshop from the system to prevent confusion.

Section 8.4
"This driver can also be used as a Control Panel ..."
You will see dialog boxes explaining that the Iomega driver can be used as a Control Panel for mounting and ejecting partitioned LaserSafe disks if you are running System 7 and try to open the 3.5.3 Driver under any of the following circumstances:

  • You do not have a LaserSafe subsystem connected to your Macintosh.
  • The Iomega driver is not loaded on the system.
  • A previous version of the Iomega driver is loaded on the system.

You will only see the dialog boxes from the Iomega driver under System 7. If you double click on the "Iomega driver" icon under System 6, you will receive an error message from the system.

If you see any of the dialog boxes described in this section, make sure the Iomega driver is installed in the Extensions folder on your startup disk. The Iomega driver can function as a control panel when used with Iomega LaserSafe drives, and will appear as a control panel under System 6. Under System 7, the driver should be installed in the "Extensions" folder. This loads the driver earlier and helps prevent conflicts with other drivers and control panels.

Section 8.4.1
No LaserSafe Drives Connected
If you do not have a LaserSafe subsystem connected to your Macintosh and you double click on the Iomega driver icon under System 7, you will see the following dialog box:

"The Iomega driver supports Bernoulli and LaserSafe drives. To add this support to your Macintosh, install this file in the 'Extensions' folder and then restart the computer.

This driver can also be used as a Control Panel for mounting and ejecting partitioned LaserSafe disks. Because there are no partitioned LaserSafe disks mounted, the Control Panel window will be empty."

The Iomega driver is only used. as a Control Panel for mounting or ejecting LaserSafe partitions. When used to support Bernoulli drives under System 7, the Iomega driver is installed in the "Extensions" folder.

Section 8.4.2
Iomega 3.5.3 Driver Not Load
You will see the following dialog box if you try to open the 3.5.3 Driver as a Control Panel and either no Iomega driver is loaded on the system or a previous version of the Iomega driver is loaded on the system:

"The Iomega driver supports Bernoulli and LaserSafe drives. To add this support to your Macintosh, place this file in the 'Extensions' folder and then restart the computer.

This driver can also be used as a Control Panel for mounting and ejecting partitioned LaserSafe disks. However, it is currently unable to run as a Control Panel.

Make sure the 3.5.3 Driver is correctly installed and loading at startup. If the driver is correctly installed in the "Extensions" folder on your startup disk and you still see the above dialog box, refer to Section 7.1 of the Iomega Software Manual for problem solving help.

Section 8.5
.".. [disk] is being shared ..."
This message appears if you try to remove a Bernoulli disk and you are using System 7 file sharing, even if you are not sharing the Bernoulli disk. The problem is that System 7 file sharing does not support removability. Refer to Section 6.2 for the Iomega Software Manual for information on how to use System 7 file sharing with your Bernoulli drive.
