The LC 550 is the fastest Motorola 68030 based model of the all-in-one design. The Macintosh LC 575 which replaces this is powered by the Motorola 68LC040.

Like other models in the LC 500 series line, the 550 was available without an internal CD-ROM drive. This seemed to be a cost-saving option for the educational market.

Notes

  • Apple part number 820-0368-A applies to the LC 550 logic board.
  • You can exchange the chassis harness assembly of the LC 520 or LC 550 with the newer chassis harness assembly of the LC 575. The newer chassis harness assembly requires the manual-inject floppy drive and caddyless CD ROM drive.

Troubleshooting/Repair

Capacitor replacement (logic board)

The SMD capacitors on the logic board will most likely have already started leaking electrolyte out the bottom, and failing to replace them in a timely manner will result in further leakage with possible damage to nearby components. See below list of capacitors to replace:

  • 6 x 47uf 16V
  • 2 x 100uf 6.3V
  • 1 x 10uf 16V
