Macintosh Quadra 605
Fairly similar to the Macintosh LC 475 desktop.
General Information
The most affordable Quadra ever, the 605 was released in October 1993. It had a 25 MHz Motorola 68LC040 processor, and came in a small newly designed case. It sold for $900 and was discontinued in October 1994. It was also sold as the LC 475, and as Performa 475 and 476 which were bundled with various combinations of a fax/modems, monitors, and hard drives.
Codenames: Aladdin, Primus. Originally shipped with System 7.1 and system enabler 065.
CPU
Shipped with the Motorola 68LC040 processor clocked at 25MHz. Can be replaced with a Motorola 68040 to add a math co-processor.
Memory
Single 72-pin SIMM slot and there is also 4MB onboard. The official memory capacity was 36MB but even larger SIMMs are known to work.
Expansion
Single LC III PDS expansion option.
ROM
512KB ROM but expandable to 1MB. AppleTalk version 57.0.4.
Troubleshooting/Repair
Capacitor replacement (logic board)
The SMD capacitors on the logic board will most likely have already started leaking electrolyte out the bottom, and failing to replace them in a timely manner will result in further leakage with possible damage to nearby components. See below list of capacitors to replace:
- 9 x 47uf 16V
- 2 x 100uf 6.3V
