Packard Bell Named Number One In Computer Systems - 12/1996
SACRAMENTO, Calif.--December 17, 1996--Packard Bell was recently named the number-one supplier of computer systems in Computer Retail Week's Top 100 Vendors List. The number-one ranking, based on projected 1996 sales, marks the ninth consecutive year that Packard Bell has dominated the home computer market. Packard Bell also ranked first in computer monitors. The Top 100 Vendors List is based on audited sales data from January through September 1996, that is projected and adjusted to reflect the entire calendar year. Research organizations such as PC Data, NPD Group, Audits & Surveys Worldwide and Computer Intelligence Infocorp contributed to the report. The computer systems list ranks suppliers of desktop systems. After Packard Bell, Compaq Computer ranked second and Toshiba America was listed third.
"It is an honor to be recognized as the number one computer systems supplier among such venerable competitors," said Mal Ransom, senior vice president of marketing, Packard Bell NEC, Inc. "Our philosophy is to provide exceptional value at affordable prices so the latest technology and communications capabilities are made accessible to a broad spectrum of consumers. I believe our vision is reflected in this number-one ranking."
Packard Bell introduced its first home computer system in 1987, pioneering the retail channel. Since then, the company has expanded the market by offering value-driven systems designed with the home consumer in mind.
This fall, Packard Bell launched its Platinum Series. These high-end multimedia systems are packed with personal communications features and bundled with more than 40 premium software titles. Packard Bell was the first to offer video conferencing and Internet phone capabilities to its already abundant set of desktop computer features, as well as a fully-integrated communications system, 3-D arcade-like video graphics and high-definition sound.
Packard Bell, a Packard Bell NEC company, is the third largest PC vendor in the world and the second largest in the U.S. Credited with having pioneered the mass marketing of PCS through the retail channel, Packard Bell brings innovative, affordable technology to the greatest number of homes in the world.
